This engagement aims to educate stakeholders on policies, laws, and initiatives related to cleaner production and the circular economy. During discussions, stakeholders emphasized their expectations for NEMA to provide compliance assistance, enabling industries to achieve pollution-free production. They advocated for a shift in NEMA’s role from an enforcer to a collaborator, urged greater stakeholder involvement in implementing strategies for greening the industrial park, and called for consistency in environmental legal frameworks.
Currently, Kampala Industrial Park has been allocated 457 factories, with over 200 operational, 164 projects underway, and 70 in the pre-start phase. However, this rapid industrial expansion has led to challenges such as wastewater management, flooding, and pollution control.
Addressing these concerns requires active engagement with industrial park entities and other stakeholders to advance initiatives that promote green development, circularity, and sustainable production practices.
