A technical team from National Environment Management Authority – Kenya visits NEMA Uganda for environment management benchmarking

A delegation from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Kenya, led by Director of ICT Ms. Diana Mbugua, is in Uganda for a two-day knowledge exchange visit with their counterparts at National Environment Management Authority Uganda. The primary focus of the visit is to benchmark on best practices in environmental management, particularly the implementation of the online Environmental Licensing and Management Information System (ELMIS).

During a debrief session, NEMA Uganda’s Executive Director, Barirega Akankwasah, PhD commended the team for their commitment to strengthening environmental governance across East Africa. He emphasized that successful implementation of customized process automation requires patience and a step-by-step approach, rather than a complete system overhaul, due to the natural human resistance to change.
