The Environmental Protection Force is provided for under the National Environment Act Cap 181 to enforce the provisions of the Act.
It comprises of persons appointed by the Authority in consultation with the Uganda Police Force. The persons appointed under subsection (2) is trained by the Uganda Police Force.
The Minister may, by statutory instrument, on the recommendation of the Uganda Police Force make regulations to regulate the Environmental Protection Force.
The Authority launched the EPF on June 05, 2024 during the commemoration of World Environment Day in Sironko District. Forty (40) officers so far have been recruited and these have done significant role in enforcing the environment laws. The enforcement operations were carried out focusing on environment degradation and pollution activities. In addition, EPF regulations was launched, and a training curriculum is being developed to support capacity strengthening of the EPF.
