NEMA celebrates 32 NRM liberation anniversary
January 26, 2018 - The Board, Management and Staff of National Environment Management Authority congratulate the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, entire Cabinet and all Ugandans as we celebrate the 32 anniversary of the N RM/A liberation.
Uganda is blessed with a wide range of biodiversity, abundant natural resources including Lakes, rivers, wetlands; and average weather conditions which are the backbone of our cultural, social and economic transformation. Negative human interactions with our surroundings will compromise the ability of future generations to enjoy the fruits of the environment.
The National celebrations that were held at the Boma Grounds in Arua district, West Nile Region, on Friday 26th January 2018, were graced by H.E. the President of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. In his speech, The President emphasized that Uganda is in a position to transform into a middle-income country by 2020 and an upper middle-income country by 2040 through engaging in a number of activities including using sustainable methods.
“Have one acre of clonal coffee, one acre of fruits, one acre of pasture for six zero grazing cows and one acre of food crops (bananas, cassava or Irish potatoes). Add to these, back yard activities of poultry for eggs, pigs, rabbits, etc. and fish farming where there are wetlands nearby,” Mr. Museveni advised while noting further that agriculture, will not be the only path for socio-economic transformation but will provide raw-materials for a wide spectrum of industries.
Industrialization and development comes with a number of environmental concerns. The National Environment Management Authority is always at hand to advise on how we can use our resources sustainably.
