NEMA Launches School Environment Competitions in Soroti Municipality

By Bob Nuwagira NEMA launched School Environment Education Competitions in over 30 schools in Soroti Municipality in partnership with the Municipal Education Office. Organized under the theme, “Our Environment Our Future,” the competitions targeted public and private schools in the municipality with the aim of streamlining sustainable environmental practices within the school setting. The competitions which were launched at Swaria Primary School by Herbert Ariko, the Area Member of Parliament would examine different initiatives that learners and administrators would impelement to create a clean and healthy environment. Prior to the launch, teachers and administrators of schools in the municipality were trained in administering Sustainable Environment Education projects in the school context and other activities such as tree planting had been initiated with the students. The twelve weeks long competitions will see the winners be awarded with tour to any nature conservation areas in the country.
