The theme for this NSOER is Restoring the environmentfor livelihood improvement and sustainable economic development. Using the Driving Forces-Pressures-State-Impacts-Response (DPSIR) approach, we assess changes in the environment, the forces driving those changes, how they have impacted livelihoods and also been harnessed to improve human wellbeing.
The National Environment Management Authority has undertaken the mantle to sensitize the communities living around River Nyagak in a bid to protect the river’s catchment areas.River Nyagak runs through Zombo, Nebbi and Arua Districts in the West Nile region and flows into River Ora that empties its water into River Nile (Albert Nile).
NEMA has continued to implement its a 5-year Strategic Plan that focuses on five
(5) Key Results Areas (KRAs) based on the mandate and statutory functions aligned
to the National Development Framework; the National Vision and the National
Development Plan (NDP). The Strategic Plan is also linked to the Multilateral
Environmental Agreements (MEAs), Regional and Global commitments on sustainable
development including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Strategic plan
